2008 AISES National Conference
Here are some photos from the 2008 AISES 30th Annual National Conference, held in Anaheim. The Arizona Professional Chapter was very well represented. During the opening ceremony, there was a slide show which highlighted 30 years of AISES history. Toward the end of the slide show there was a group photo of AZPC in 2007, and the caption said: "Phoenix, Arizona Professional Chapter awards $18,000 in scholarships". We were the only professional chapter mentioned during this 30 Year AISES highlight slide show!
At the Professional Members Dinner, AZPC took home the "Hungriest Chapter Award", by having the most chapter members in attendance. Not in the group picture but also at the dinner/conference were: Olivia Scott, Elmer Roanhorse, Jeff George, Ophelia Goatson, Lee Williams, Kristina Halona (member "on hiatus"), plus former members Cheryl McClellan and Andrew Duff.
Also at the Professional Members Dinner, AZPC won the "Fundraising Award" for raising the most funds this past year. We had to share the fundraising award with the California Professional Chapter. Darryl Bradley won the "AISES Golden Golfer Award".
AZPC was well represented at the Halloween Party also. Can you recognize any faces in those costumes?
There is also a table photo from the Sequoyah Breakfast.
It was a great conference! Some of the highlights were: Keynote speech by Billy Mills at the Opening Ceremony, (3) student chapter of the year awards (won by Stanford, NAU and another school), tour of UCLA campus, professional leadership workshops, premier of movie "Power Paths" (focusing on the Black Mesa mine), Career Fair, General members meeting, Talking circles, Professional members dinner, Halloween Party, Honors banquet, and Powwow. The Ely S. Parker Award was presented to Norbert Hill, former long time AISES Executive Director. John Herrington gave a slide show presentation of his bicycle ride across the country.
AZPC members on the program were: Sheila Lopez-Aguirre presenting "Micro Messaging in the Workplace", and Board members Olivia Scott and Tony Kahn.
San Manuel Band of Mission Indians were a "Turquoise" major sponsor, the first time a tribal nation was a major sponsor of the AISES National Conference. Other major sponsors were: Boeing, IBM, and Lockheed Martin.
I hope those of you who attended had a wonderful time. Those who could not make it were missed!
Sincerely,
Tony Kahn
Member, Arizona Professional Chapter of AISES
